The Power of Breathing

“Smell is a potent wizard that transports you across thousands of miles and all the years you have lived.”

                                                                                                                                    – Helen Keller

We all know that we need to breathe, but do You Breathe Well?

Did you know that next to your skin, your lungs are one of the largest organs in your body?

Fun fact, the surface area of your lungs is the equivalent of a tennis court.  The length of airways that runs through your lungs is approximately 1,500 miles.  Think of an airplane trip from Chicago to Las Vegas and you have an idea how vast your airway system is.

You breathe on average 12 to 15 times per minute.  This adds up to approximately 17,000 breathes a day or more than 6 million breaths in a year. That is A LOT of breathing.

Why is it important to breathe well?

Why is it important to ask yourself if you are breathing well? Because many of us forget to breathe.  Don’t believe me, the next time you’re stressed out or working at your computer, ask yourself, “Am I breathing”.

I have found personally that when I become stressed out or am working at my computer that I can skip a breath, or my breathing can become shallow.  Our bodies respond to this in many different ways. It can cause anxiety, headaches, and brain fogginess.

Help yourself breathe better

If you haven’t tried our inhalers, this is one of the reasons you should.  Using an inhaler reminds you to breathe, it brings focus to regaining a breathing pattern.

Regaining your breath can lead to rejuvenation, refresh the senses and help you re-set your focus.

Mindful breathing can impact stress and anxiety. As you practice your daily breathing, you can find improvement in your wellness by lowering your heart rate, lower your blood pressure, reduce and regulate stress symptoms in your body.
